Turning & controlling speed
Build control on gentle terrain with an instructor.
Control first
Work with an instructor to learn a stable stance and controlled stopping. Choose terrain where you can stop safely and maintain control throughout each turn.
Turn shape
Rounded turns across the slope can help manage speed. Look ahead, allow space for others and avoid abrupt traverses into traffic. Do not progress to steeper terrain until your instructor considers you ready.
When to stop skiing
If you cannot control your speed or stop reliably, return to easier terrain and ask for help. Fatigue, poor visibility and icy conditions can change what terrain is appropriate.
